in less than 48 hours my oldest son will board a school bus for the first time and head off to elementary school. this is a mind-blowing quantum leap because i was nursing him and changing diapers just last week. still, this traditional ride into fall brings opportunity for fresh beginnings: new backpacks, scribble-free notebooks, an updated list of personal goals, some new clothes. as much as i want time to slow down, i love the seasons' insistent reminders (fall leaves, spring shoots) that years pass and we'd better get on with the business at hand: sharpen those pencils. learn to cook that great autumn meal you once tried a fancy restaurant. wear a new sweater. hop on the bus. and embrace the ones you love -- and the next adventure.
