somehow i never read anna karenina before so i made it my summer project and am almost done. i have to say, it's been a huge surprise: i was expecting a big Love Story, based on the hype. but it's not at all. it's about divorce, the fragility of marriage, the hardships of motherhood, and reality eroding dreams. (it's about other stuff, too: faith, politics, etc.) it's surprisingly modern and rich. makes me wish i had taken a seminar on it in college.
